Community Outreach Manager Amy McCauley was named the Catawba County Public Health Employee of the Year on November 7, 2015.

McCauley, who has worked for Public Health for five years, manages Catawba County Public Health’s outreach, communication and community health improvement initiatives including Catawba County Health Partners, Inc., a 501(c) 3 nonprofit that addresses health priorities through community collaboration.

Over the past year, McCauley led community partners to develop and launch the Cancer Task Force WellBusiness Program, which recognized 19 businesses for healthy employee wellness policies and practices, and the Give Healthy toolkit to encourage healthy food donations to community food assistance programs. McCauley was instrumental in the development of the Public Health Farmers Market in 2013, which was recognized with two national awards this past year: the Alliance for Innovation’s Robert J. Havlick Award for Innovation in Local Government, and the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) Program Excellence Award. These awards acknowledged the use of innovative vision and strategy to help increase fruit and vegetable consumption, as well as the market’s achievement of the highest redemption of WIC Farmers’ Market Nutritional Program vouchers in North Carolina.

McCauley also coordinated the adoption of tobacco free government buildings, grounds and parks policies in five Catawba County municipalities that resulted in National Association of Counties (NACo) Outstanding Program and Catawba County Team awards in the fall of 2014.

“Amy’s leadership and desire to make a difference in our community and in the lives of people is making a lasting impact,” said Douglas W. Urland, health director. “Her passion, commitment, and achievements to improve health exemplify the spirit of the Catawba County Public Health Employee of the Year. “
