ELECTRONICS AND PAINT RECYCLING OFFERED YEAR ROUND AT BLACKBURN LANDFILL BEGINNING JULY 1, 2013

Beginning July 1, 2013, Catawba County will expand its residential recycling program to include a permanent electronics and paint collection area at the Blackburn Landfill. This service will be available year round during regular Landfill operating hours.

“We’re happy to announce that we will accept electronics and paint for proper disposal year round free of charge!,” said Amanda Kain, the County’s Waste Reduction Coordinator and Educator. “From the beginning of our special Household Hazardous Waste Collection Days in 2000, paints have been one of the products most often brought by our citizens and the demand for electronics disposal was so strong that we began accepting those products in 2003. Now any citizen of Catawba County who wants to properly dispose of electronics or paint won’t have to wait until a special collection event!”

The Blackburn Landfill is located at 4017 Rocky Ford Road, Newton, NC 28658, south of the intersection of Highway 10 and Hickory-Lincolnton Highway. Electronics and Paint will be accepted at the Blackburn Landfill on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The Landfill is closed on New Year’s Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.
