CATAWBA COUNTY ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL TO HOLD DOG ADOPTION EVENT

AT AUGUST 25 HICKORY CRAWDADS GAME

Catawba County’s Animal Care and Control Division will be working to provide dogs a good new home, at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory on Saturday, August 25, when the Hickory Crawdads host the West Virginia Power. Gates will open at 6 pm, and the game will begin at 7 pm. L.P. Frans Stadium is located on Clement Boulevard off Highway 321 North.

Everyone who adopts a dog will receive a certificate redeemable for a year’s worth of free dog food, courtesy of Purina/Galaxy Food Center.

“Finding a good home for the animals who are brought to the Catawba County Animal Shelter is one of the most important parts of our work,” said Joaine McKeel, Catawba County Animal Services Manager. “We are grateful to the Hickory Crawdads for inviting us to hold a dog adoption event at the Crawdads game on August 25. We had a very successful adoption of cats at a Crawdads game earlier this year and are looking forward to the opportunity to place adoptable dogs in new homes.”

The fee for adoption of dogs of all ages and sizes is $75. The fee includes a $60 cost for spaying and neutering, $10 for a DHLP and parvo vaccination, and $5 for a rabies vaccination. All animal are given an external exam free of charge.

A first veterinarian visit must be provided by a dog’s new owner within five days of adoption. Medical work is to be completed within thirty days on adult animals and by six months on puppies and kittens. Any unknown medical problems at the time of adoption, or death by natural causes within 30 days of purchase, will result in a refund of unspent monies or choice of another animal. The person adopting an animal must provide a letter from a veterinarian stating medical problems or cause of death before refunds or substitutions are made.
