TIPS TO AVOID LONG LINES AT THE TAX OFFICE
Come early to avoid long lines paying taxesProperty owners are aware that real estate and personal property taxes are due on or before January 5, 2007.  That being the case each year, we always have a large number of taxpayers that come in during the holiday season to pay their tax bills.  Long lines and a long wait time are usually the norm during this period.  Please be aware of things that can be done to help avoid waiting in line for an extremely long time.

  1. Have a copy of your bill for all properties you are paying.
  2. Be prepared to pay in cash if you are paying for a blocked vehicle tax bill.
  3. Payment Drop Box – There is a drop box located on the right side of the front of the Government Center.  Also, there will be a drop box in the foyer in front of the Reception Desk.  These drop boxes can be used only if you are paying by check and you have your bill available (account number must be on check).  Any payments dropped in these boxes will be given credit for paying on the same business day.
  4. Come early – There are typically long lines from mid December through mid January.
  5. If you have questions about your bill or wish to discuss payment options, please come as soon as possible to our office.  The high number of customers here at this time of year can put a strain on our resources.
  6. Utilize the on-line services to make credit card or e-check payments.  Instructions are printed on each bill or you can go to the county website under Tax and click on either method of payment you choose.  A processing fee applies to this service.
  7. Mail payments to the address listed on the bill.  Typically, mail payments are processed the day received.
  8. County Website -  Under Quick Links click on Tax Bill Search to research information or to print out bills.

If you have any questions or need more information regarding any of these items, please call the Tax Collector’s Office at 828-465-8414.
