NEW SHERIFF’S OFFICE SUBSTATION IN SHERRILLS FORD/TERRELL COMMUNITY NOW OPEN

A new substation of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office serving the Sherrills Ford-Terrell community was officially opened with an open house and ribbon cutting on Saturday, February 27, 2016. The substation is located in the building that formerly housed a branch of the Catawba County Library, at 8456 Sherrills Ford Road, in Sherrills Ford, NC 28673.  Barbara Beatty, Vice-Chair of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners, was joined by County Commissoner Sherry Butler, Sheriff Coy Reid, North Carolina Representative Mitchell Setzer, deputies serving the Sherrills Ford-Terrell area and area citizens for the event.

“If the population living in the southeast corner of Catawba County were combined into a city or town, it would be the third largest city in the county,” said Catawba County Sheriff Coy Reid. “Add in the special public safety needs on and along Lake Norman and it’s easy to see that the Sherrills Ford-Terrell area needs extensive patrol coverage from the Sheriff’s Office. We have worked hard over the years to provide that coverage with our road patrol and lake patrol. The new substation will be a great asset for our deputies and detectives, by providing them with office space and an area for presentations by crime prevention and lake patrol officers on topics such as boating and water safety.”

Renovations to the former Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library were made in 2015 by Travis Construction and Drywall of Conover at a cost of $24,000. Their work created two detective offices, two interview rooms; an office for two Lake Patrol officers; a separate office for two road patrol deputies; a room reserved for other possible future uses by the County; renovated bathrooms that meet ADA requirements, renovations to sidewalks; and a resurfacing of the parking lot.
