- Received more than 2,900 reports of child abuse and neglect
- Has custody of over 239 children in foster care
- Operates five group homes for children who cannot live with their families
- Finalized 67 adoptions for Catawba County children
- Enabled the parents of 2,761 children to work by providing day care assistance
- Helped prevent 99% of the 363 teenagers served by TEEN UP and Upward Connection from becoming pregnant or causing a pregnancy
- Collected over $14.5 million in child support for Catawba County children. Did you know that any Catawba County citizen can apply for child support services for a $25 fee,
regardless of income?
- Reduced the number of families receiving public assistance checks from 420 in July 2000 to 238 families in July 2008 - a 43% decline - despite an economic recession that has continued for several years.
- Enabled 29,623 low-income persons to access medical care with Medicaid coverage and 3,377 children from working poor families to access medical care through NC Health Choice for Children
- Provided nutritious meals, education, a social outlet, and health and wellness services to 1,626 senior citizens
- Provided over $18 million of food assistance to low-income citizens
- Investigated 2,032 reports of child neglect/abuse involving 4,093 children through Child Protective Services
- Provided therapeutic services to 2,470 Family N.E.T. clients
- Provided crisis interventions to 44 walk- in Family N.E.T. clients
- Served 572 school age children during school hours within the three local school systems
- Provided therapeutic services to 22 schools in the Catawba County School system, 8 schools in the Hickory City School system, and 4 schools in the Newton-Conover City School system.
- Provided therapeutic treatment and psychological testing for court referred youths, 81% of whom did not incur new juvenile criminal charges.
