Established in 1995 by Catawba County Social Services and the Children's Home Society of North Carolina, Family Builders of Catawba Valley affirms the philosophy that every child has the right to a safe, loving and permanent home. Today, Family Builders is a part of Catawba County Social Services. The majority of children we serve have entered Social Service’s custody due to abuse, neglect or dependency. The agency’s first goal is to reunify those children with their birth families. Foster families are needed who can “foster for reunification” and help children return to their birth family when safe and appropriate. Loving families are also needed to adopt children who cannot be returned to their families of origin and for whom the court has ordered a plan of adoption. Family Builders of Catawba Valley is constantly searching for Resource Families (foster and adoptive families) to provide care for children while working toward reunification with the birth parents, as well as families who can provide adoptive homes. Resource families may be foster, adopt, kinship or a respite care/ visiting resource for waiting children. Our mission is to create, build, strengthen and sustain all families through foster and adoption services. All Resource Families play a vital role in fulfilling our mission. Kinship families are related or known to a child before coming into foster care. Respite/ Visiting resource families offer a refreshing and inviting place for children, who are in the custody of Social Services, to visit on a regular basis, such as one evening each week or scheduled weekend visits. These families can provide mentoring and friendship to children who need support and encouragement. An unplanned pregnancy can cause fear, confusion and worry, regardless of a woman’s age, whether married or unmarried. Family Builders believes all women should be aware of the options available to them so they can make the best choices for the future well-being of their child. We offer confidential and free professional services to birth parents, including professional counseling and a variety of support services during the pregnancy. Our goal is to support birth parents in whatever choice they make. |
