Is Unreliable Transportation Interfering with Your Job? Work and Ride may have a vehicle for you. After completing an application and paying the $15 fee, a selection committee reviews the application. Qualified applicants may receive a road-worthy vehicle to insure the recipient has reliable transportation for work. Who Qualifies for the Work & Ride Program? Only individuals who do not own or have access to another vehicle and the use of public transportation is not a viable solution. Individuals also must have a valid driver’s license and be able to cover the expenses of tax, title transfer and insurance. “ I did not have the finances to purchase another vehicle and probably would have had to find a different job where I could use public transportation. I was told about the Work and Ride program and applied. In a relatively short amount of time, I was awarded the car that was so graciously donated. This car provides me with the ability to stay employed and also to provide safe transportation for the mentally handicapped clients that I transport in my working capacity. Thank you for enabling me to continue to be a working, productive person serving the community to the best of my ability.” Grandmother caring for a six-year-old granddaughter Donna Thomas |
Could You Use a 3,000 Pound Tax Deduction? How? By donating a car, truck or can in roadworthy condition to the Work & Ride program. Why? For a family struiggling to make ends meet, reliable transportation can often mean the difference between getting or keeping a job and becoming self-sufficient. What? Donors may receive an IRS tax deduction and the good feeling that comes from helping put someone on the road to employement and independence. The Work and Ride Program is a partnership of Catawba Social Services and Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry |
