The Records
Division is responsible for collecting, maintaining, and disseminating
information to law enforcement agencies and the public. The Records
Division manages case reports for Sheriff's Office Road Patrol, Investigations
and the Newton Detention Facility. Officers called to crime scenes are
required to investigate and submit a field report to the Records Division
for computer data entry.
Citizens
needing a copy of a report may come to the Records Division between
the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, except holidays.
Incident
Based Reporting is submitted to the State of North Carolina and is included
in the Uniform Crime Report. The Uniform Crime Report is maintained
by the Records Division and lists crime statistics for the Sheriff's
Office.
Additional
responsibilities include Central Warrant repository, child support show
cause papers, orders for arrest, background checks for handgun purchase
permits, alcohol and drug abuse, private attorney crimnal history checks,
officer criminal history checks for court, public fingerprints, county
employement backgrounds, concealed carry permits, domestic violence
orders and sex offender public registration files.
