A Deputy needs to complete BLET - Basic Law Enforcement Training.  It is offered as a 6-month course at most community colleges; however, student must be sponsored by law enforcement agency.  We do sponsor after a packet of information is supplied and we perform a thorough background - this does not include any payment by us.

Detention Officers do not have to complete BLET.  There is a month long course that we pay for after we hire detention officer.

Current starting salaries:
Deputies start @ $34,402 ($16.54 per hour)
Detention Officers start at $28,285 ($13.60 per hour)

We usually have part-time positions open.  Full-time Officers are hired from the part-time staff (unless applicant has prior law enforcement experience).  Promotion is performance based.

Come by our office Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm to pick up the application packet for BLET Sponsorship, or employment.  We do not mail either packet as residency in Catawba County is a requirement.  All Officers must be 21 or older.
