UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE
For the past 6 years, Catawba County has worked with citizens across the County to develop a long-range vision for their community. To receive the greatest amount of public input, the County was divided into seven small areas, and a committee was formed from each area to develop specific recommendations on how their areas should grow over the next 10-20 years. These seven small area plans (SAP) include recommendations for density (how many houses per acre), design standards for new development and sign requirements. The SAP plan recommendations have been implemented through a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The UDO contains all the land use regulations, such as zoning, subdivision, floodplain, etc. into one user-friendly document.
