Check in at the kiosk. This allows park staff to know who is in
the park and is intended for your safety.
Be
prepared. Riverbend is a large acreage park with some very steep
terrain. Pay attention to trail markers, map stands, and understand how
to use both. Recommended items to bring include water, a park map, compass
and a cell phone (or whistle).
Be
alert. Wildlife is just that . . . WILD. Observe plants and animals
from a safe distance. Do not harm or remove plants and animals. Because
Riverbend Park is located next to a hydroelectric dam, the river water
level rises quickly and currents can become very strong. Watch for changing
weather conditions it's a long walk back to the parking areas.
Be
wise. Know your physical limitations. If possible, take a partner.
If you become lost, follow the yellow arrow trail markers for the quickest
route back to the park office or call (828) 256-9157. Remember the Catawba River is
the northern boundary of the park. If you follow the river upstream, it
will lead back to the fishing platform or the dam.
Know the trail conditions. Wet trails can cause possible
falls, because the terrain is steep.
Use appropriate safety equipment. If biking at Riverbend
Park, helmets and other safety equipment are suggested. Some of the bike
trails are technical, very narrow and steep. If canoeing or kayaking,
approved life jackets are suggested. Keep in mind that water levels and
currents change rapidly.
Use common sense. Most of all have fun and enjoy the natural
beauty of Riverbend Park. |
