Abundant wildlife, rare plants and a mixed hardwood forest comprised of mostly Chestnut Oak and Mountain Laurel make the park a refreshingly different recreation opportunity. An observation platformand gazebo are located near the top of the mountain giving hikers an excellent view of the Catawba Valley.
A natural boulder out cropping, a turn of the century house site, and several open meadows make interesting stopping points along the way.
If the hike seems like too much, don't worry. Several picnic shelters are near the park office to accommodate a number of family activities.
The park gives southwest Catawba County a passive recreation facility, fulfilling a need in one of the county's fastest growing areas.
