The current Catawba County Animal Shelter was completed in 1985 and constructed at a cost of nearly $300,000. It is a totally enclosed facility, meaning no animal sheltered is being exposed to the weather. The Animal Shelter was designed with separate quarters for male and female dogs, and an area specifically for cats.
The
animal shelter is thoroughly ventilated
with collapsible vents on each wall with
ceiling fans in all hallways. A top the
building is a large fan that draws fresh
air in through the vents. The Animal Shelter is sanitized on a regular basis and recently installed a new heating and air system in the kennels.
There is a 2 bay garage constructed to provide an enclosed area where officers can unload animals without fear of their escape. The garage area has kennels where sick or injured animals can be housed away from other pets to prevent contamination.
