Catawba County is located in the Piedmont Foothills region of North Carolina. We are a major industrial center for the furniture and fiber optics industries. With a population of 141,685, our call volume is 20,791 per year and rising at a rate of seven to ten percent per year.

We operate three divisions within the service that handle 911 response, scheduled transports, contract transports, in-service and new employee training.

Catawba County was one of ten counties in the state to be named a Model EMS System. Comprehensive protocols allow our employees to utilize their skills and knowledge to their fullest. 40 medications, 12 lead EKG interpretation and Capnogrphy via Lifepak 12 monitors, twin-cath insertion, Adult IO, RSI, CPAP, and a wide variety of other procedures are routine aspects of our delivery of pre-hospital medicine. We also provide Critical Care Transport Services from both of the local hospitals. A study of 12 lead EKG use in the field and our chest pain protocol done by our Continuous Quality Improvement Team was published in the March 2000 issue of the Journal of Emergency Medical Services Research Forum.

Mike and Jenn Employee involvement in all aspects of our operations is encouraged. Full and part time employees can expand their career options with participation in programs such as special events teams, bike teams, neonatal transport services, public relations, marketing, research, and education. Plans for Critical Care Transport Service are in place.

We also have a strong commitment to community service and sponsor annual events such as charity golf tournaments and Christmas parties for foster children. An annual awards banquet showcases our outstanding employees who receive Excellence in Action, Distinguished Service, and Employee of the Year awards.

Catawba County full-time employees receive a generous benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, life insurance, retirement options, and flex spending programs. EMS employees are provided uniforms, rain and foul weather gear; full-time employees are supplied with footwear and turnout gear.

Special offer for paramedic students! We will hire paramedic students at four-fifths time with an upgrade to full-time status when you graduate. These employees will work a reduced work- week but still receive benefits (pro-rated at four-fifths time). This will allow you to be employed with an EMS provider while continuing your education.
