HOW TO REGISTER TO VOTE
  • You must be properly registered in order to vote in any primary, general or municipal election. Registration is handled by the County Board Of Elections.

    Click here to go to the State Board of Elections Web Site and check to see if you are registered. Once you are there, click on "Check your Voter Registration Here."

  • The deadline for persons to register in order to be eligible to vote in an election is 5:00 pm on the twenty-fifth day before the election, if submitted in person. If registering by mail, it must be postmarked at least 25 days before the election. A prospective voter must be registered in the county in which he/she resides and must vote in the same county.

  • In order to register, you may pick up forms at the following locations:
    County Board Of Elections
    Public Assistant Agencies (if you are there for assistance)
    Recruitment Offices (if you are there on business)
    Employment Security Commission (if you are there for job placement)
    Public Libraries and High Schools
    DMV (if you are there for license or ID)
    Any Registration Drives

    You can also get a printable, PDF copy of the latest form at the the State Board of Elections Web Site, then click on Forms, then NC Voter Registration.

  • Fill out and mail form to:

    NEWTON, NC 28658

  • The following requirements must be met in order to register:
      You must be a native-born or naturalized citizen of the U.S.
      You must be eighteen (18) years of age by Election Day
      You may vote in a primary at seventeen (17) years of age if you will be eighteen (18) years of age by the next election.
      If you have been a convicted Felon you must have your citizenship restored.
      You must be a resident in the precinct in which you wish to vote for at least (30) days.

  • You may affiliate with one of the following parties:
    Democrat
    Republican
    Unaffiliated
    If you fail to mark a party preference, you will automatically be registered UNAFFILIATED.

  • Upon completion of registration, your name will be added to the precinct voter list. You will receive a voter registration card informing you of the name and location of your voting place. This card is not necessary for voting.
