The Catawba County Soil & Water District is available to all Catawba County Schools (k-12), private schools, and home schools. Teachers, we can come to your school to help you meet your environmental science education objectives. We teach various types of programs concerning soil & water conservation. Some of our common programs, but we are not limited to are:|
Macroinvertebrate Mayhem (Project WET)
Students play a game of tag to simulate the effects of environmental stressors on macroinvertebrate populations.
The Incredible Journey (Project WET)
With a roll of the die, students simulate the movement of water within the water cycle.
Common Water (Project WET)
Students analyze the results of a simulation to understand that water is a shared resource and is managed.
Getting Down and Dirty with Soils
Students will compare soil sizes, permeability, and needs and uses of soil.
We also have a lending library available to Catawba County residents. We have several educational resources, guides, and books to assist you.
We can provide professional development upon request. We can provide professional development on national curriculums such as Project Learning Tree, Project WET, and state developed professional development trainings such as It’s Our Water, and Project Food, Land, and People. There is no charge for the trainings, but there may be a charge for supplies and materials.
