The Catawba County Library System has computers with Internet
access available for public use at each of its locations. Anyone
using or viewing a computer with Internet access must have their
library card with them and have signed the library's Internet
Use Policy. Parents are required to sign the Internet
Use Policy for each child under 18 before the child will
be permitted to use or view a computer with Internet access. Visitors
to our area may request a two-week guest pass with proof of identification.
You may print pages from the Web for $0.10 a page (black and white) or $0.25 a page for color, or you may
choose to download information to a floppy disk or CD. You may
bring your own disk or CD or purchase either at the library for
$1.00.
All
computers for public use have the Microsoft Office 2000 suite
of software programs. This includes: Microsoft Word 2000, Excel
2000, Publisher 2000, PowerPoint 2000, and Access 2000.
Catawba County Library offers free computer classes on a monthly basis. A monthly calendar of scheduled classes is available at each of our branches and in our monthly library newsletter. Registration is required and seating is limited. The classes are aimed at adult beginners and are about 1-1/2 hours long. Please call Regina Reitzel at 828-465-7938 for more information. You may also send your question via emailing us here.
Tours and instruction in using library materials, equipment and
computers are provided for any age group. We invite you to call
and schedule your group at least one week in advance of your requested
date. Brief instructions in using the INTERNET are provided on
a walk-in basis. Tours of the library or an individual department
can be arranged (Genealogy and Local History Department, Information
Services Department, and Information Services Department).
Temporary
reference shelves will be set up for school assignments when advance
notice of class assignments is given to the Information Services
Department. We are happy to research the topic and reserve age
appropriate materials so that all students have equal access to
the available materials. A combination of books, magazine articles,
INTERNET sites, and pathfinders will be gathered for the temporary
reference shelf. Please call Youth Services, Information Services,
or Genealogy and Local History for more information at (828) 465-8665.
