The Benefits

Catawba County goes above and beyond to take care of its employees by offering some unexpected benefits in addition to the classics. Hover over each area to see more.

    Competitive Pay

Catawba County offers a competitive salary package, including pay for performance and longevity pay. We also offer, to qualified employees, other types of incentive pay, including bilingual pay, on-call pay, and performance awards. Additionally, our pay plan is updated on an annual basis to ensure our salaries are competitive in the surrounding labor market.

Catawba County offers a competitive benefits package that includes employer paid health, dental, life, short term and long term disability insurance coverage. Employees may select from a variety of other optional offerings, including flexible spending and health savings accounts; vision, cancer, heart and stroke insurances; and supplemental and dependent life insurances. Encouraging employees to live a healthy lifestyle is the foundation of our wellness initiative. Catawba County provides employees a wide array of programs and activities to support overall health and wellness, including a fee on-site medical clinic, EAP counseling services, on-site exercise classes and walking groups, weight watchers at work program, access to a certified nutritionist, and discounts to local gyms.

    Financial Planning

With careful planning, retirement is possible sooner than you think. Our employees participate in a retirement plan though the North Carolina Local Governmental Retirement System and have the option to supplement this retirement program with other tax deferred savings plans such as 401(k). To help employees stretch their dollars a bit more, many of the County’s health benefits are sheltered from taxes through a cafeteria benefits plan.

Employees receive life insurance equal to their annual salary and have the option to purchase additional coverage for themselves or family members. To better understand how all these benefits work together toward securing your future, the County provides retirement information sessions on a regular basis throughout the year.

    Other Benefits

In addition to holiday, vacation and sick leave, the County offers access to many other benefits, such as flexible schedules, time off for activities that support our local schools, continuing educational assistance, individual service and team awards, discount tickets to recreational venues and employee appreciation days.
