COUNTY GOVERNMENT MONTH 2016 CALENDAR OF EVENTS

 

Thursday, April 28- Self-Defense Class- 5:30-7:30 p.m. Main County Library, 115 West C. Street, Newton. Randy Dula from the NC Dept. of Public Safety will instruct on self-defense for any skill level.

Friday, April 29- Homeless Veterans Stand Down, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m., Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds, Highway 70 SE. Catawba County Veterans Services will be among the agencies offering food, clothing, medical care, dental care, blood pressure checks, vision care, and other medical necessities to homeless veterans. Employment resources will be available to include job services, resume assistance, and free tax preparation.

Little Learning Party- 10 a.m. Conover Branch of the County Library, 403 Conover Station Southeast, Conover, NC 28613. Experience the joy of learning with your little ones while we sing, dance, read and play games. This 30 minute story time is followed by a craft and playtime.

NC LIVE Exploration Series- 11 a.m. Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch of the County Library, 9154 Sherrills Ford Road, Terrell, NC 28682. NC LIVE provides free, online access to powerful and reliable information and resources. This month we’ll explore NC LIVE’s Genealogy & Historical Maps section.

Catawba Crafters- Fridays at Noon. Southwest branch of the County Library. 2944 Highway 127 South, Hickory, North Carolina 28602. The crafters are back! Come with your own project or work on a hat, scarf or hand warmers for the homeless, Group Home resident or other charitable organization! Or just enjoy the company of other creative crafty individuals!

Saturday, April 30- Día de los Niños Family Festival, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. St. Stephens branch of the County Library 3225 Springs Road, Hickory, NC 28601-9700. A full day of family fun that celebrates the joy of childhood, learning, and community. Enjoy free games, entertainment, and demonstrations all day. Browse the library, stop by vendors’ tables for free info about community resources and take home activities.

Schedule of the day:
9:30 am: Baby Bounce Bilingual Storytime
10 am: DIY Baby Food Demonstration
10a-12p: Car seat safety checks
10:30 am: Stretch-n-Grow for ages 2-5
11 am: Sensory Play and Music Crafts
11:30 am: Family Dance Party (HG Fitness)
12-1 pm: Free play
1:30-2 pm: Storytelling and Dance from Latin America
